(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A strong pitching performance from a senior and a walk-off hit from a freshman sent Missouri Western to a sweep of Nebraska-Kearney Saturday afternoon.

The Griffons (26-14, 11-7 MIAA) took the first contest 5-1, and won the late game 6-5.

Jackie Bishop had a no-hitter through 5 1/3 innings in game one, and finished allowing just one run on two hits and ten strikeouts in the complete game victory. She pitched a total of 19 1/3 innings with 27 strikeouts in three games this weekend. Her record improves to 17-6.

The Griffons backed Bishop with a five-run third inning. Taylor Anding delivered the big hit with the bases loaded. A double to the left center field fence cleared the bases to put Western up 4-0, and gave Anding her first RBI at home this season. Katie Klosterman drove Anding in two batters later to complete the scoring.

Western's lead-off hitter Bre Fleschner was 3-3 at the plate with a run scored. Tiffany Gillaspy was 2-4 with a run scored.

Freshman Sydney Washington was the hero in the second game.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh and the Griffons trailing 5-4, Washington singled to center scoring Michelle Stevenson to tie it. Fleschner came home from first thanks to a UNK error during the play to complete the sweep.

Washington was the only Griffon with a mulit-hit game going 3-4 with 2 RBI and 2 stolen bases.

Janie Smith got her ninth win of the season allowing five earned runs in seven innings.

Missouri Western's jumped to third in the MIAA standings trailing only Emporia State and Central Oklahoma.
