(ST. JOSEPH) Chillicothe helped the Mustangs snap a two-game skid by committing six errors in their meeting on Tuesday.

The Mudcats traveled to Phil Welch Stadium on Wednesday aiming to clean up the defense, and salvaged a doubleheader split with St. Joseph, blanking the Mustangs 4-0 before falling 4-1.

The Mustangs managed just four hits while committing two errors in the first contest. Robert Beltran notched the win while pitching six scoreless innings, allowing two walks and recording a pair of strikeouts.

All four runs were tagged to Trent Kinney, who also gave up eight hits over 4 2/3 innings.

The Mustangs (7-3, 3-3) loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth, but Michael Klein came back to strike out Kyle Richards and Tony Brandner after back-to-back full counts. Eric Wilcoxson flied out to foul territory in left to end it.

Jeremiah Figueroa got the start in game two and quickly got into a jam as he gave up a first-inning RBI to Norry Galjour.

The righty settled down over his next 3 1/3 innings of work, scattering six overall hits despite tallying no strikeouts.

Lucas Powers and Evan McDonald slapped RBI singles in the bottom of the second to put St. Joseph on top 2-1.

Joe Koerper came through in the third with a much-needed extra base hit to plate Mike Sherburne. He then scored to make it 4-1 when Brandon Huske was caught attempting to steal second.

Austin Aspegren, Jon Pomatto, and Brett Ash combined to toss a hitless final 2 2/3 innings.

The Mustangs are back at home Thursday night against the reigning MINK League Champion Clarinda A's.
