The St. Joseph Mustangs (36-15) continued their run of success in the opening round of the National Baseball Congress World Series with an 8-4 win over the Hutchinson Monarchs Saturday morning.
The MINK League champs are now 5-0 in first round games in the NBC.
Despite an eight-day break between games, and an 8:00am start, the Mustangs' bats didn't show any rust.
Orencio Fisher led off the game with a single on the first pitch, and set the tone for St. Joe's offense.
Josh Cassidy lined a two-out RBI hit to center to put St. Joe on top. Anthony Maselli followed with a double to the warning track in center field scoring Cassidy and Trent Hill.
Leading by two in the fourth, Jacob Richardson drove in two more on a bases loaded single into center. Hill added an RBI later in the frame to give St. Joseph a 6-1 lead.
St. Joe tacked on two more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Maselli finished 2-5 with two RBIs, while Hill went 3-5 with one run batted in.
Hill's now 8-15 in four games at the NBC World Series dating back to the 2014 postseason.
Preston Felgate earned the win working 6.2 innings with four runs allowed.
Austin Aspegren and Blake Kolons combine to pitch the final 2.1 innings for the Mustangs.
St. Joseph will play again Sunday. Game time hasn't been announced.
They await the winner between the Santa Barbara Foresters and the San Antonio Titans.
