(ST. JOSEPH) Mustangs starter Miles Gully did his part, allowing just three hits over 7 1/3 innings, but the offense couldn't figure out Jonathan Krysa either.

The Kansas City Monarchs scored on a sacrifice fly and two passed balls to shut out St. Joseph 3-0 at Phil Welch Stadium on Wednesday.

Krysa pitched all nine innings for the short-handed Monarchs, scattering six hits while striking out four batters.

Morgan Johann plated Jordan Hurtt for the opening run after the former Mustang's leadoff triple in the sixth.

Both passed balls came in the eight when Reed Morton came on to relieve Gully. He walked the only batter he faced before being pulled in favor for Austin Aspegren without recording an out. Aspegren allowed Hurtt to score again with another wide pitch.

The Mustangs had runners on first and second in the ninth with one out, but Evan McDonald belted into a game-ending double play.

St. Joseph returns to the road and MINK League play on Thursday against the Joplin Outlaws.
