(ST. JOSEPH) The Mustangs suffered a 14-2 defeat at Chillicothe Monday to wrap up the 2013 season.
The loss means St. Joseph (28-21) finishes .500 in MINK League play at 21-21.
Dixon Marble's start lasted three innings as he gave up five hits and five runs. Four of five relief pitchers used by the Mustangs combined to give up the other nine runs to the Mudcats.
They were backed up by mistake-ridden defense as the Mustangs committed a season-high six errors.
The only St. Joe runs came in the fourth inning when Griff Gordon scored on a wild pitch by Derek Birginske and Shane O'Connell grounded into a fielder's choice.
Briginske struck out three Mustangs and surrendered five hits through six innings in the victory.
The end came sooner than the Mustangs organization is used to. This marks the first year without any postseason play in the club's five-year history.
The club sent off four players to contracts with professional teams this summer.
