(ST. JOSEPH) The last three weeks of the 2013 Mustangs season could have a different feel than that of the past two years.
At this time in 2011 and 2012, St. Joseph was less than a week removed from clinching the MINK League's North Division. This year, they've often found themselves in second.
The top-place Clarinda A's came to St. Joe Friday and got a go-ahead single in the eighth inning from Bryan Nicholson to lift them to a 3-2 victory.
Brandon Simmons got the start, but exited before the decisive run, working seven innings while giving up six hits and recording five strikeouts.
Ethan Appleby took the loss with just a third of an inning under his belt.
Blake Trahan opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single, scoring Clarinda's only run until the seventh.
St. Joe (18-13, 14-13) picked up both their runs in the eighth with RBI from Joe Koerper and Connor Foreman.
The A's tied the game in the seventh when Dominick Francia plated Nate Thurman, who reached after being struck by a Simmons pitch.
The Mustangs round out the homestand Saturday against Omaha.
