(OMAHA, Neb.) Despite a furious comeback from St. Joseph, Omaha scored in the bottom of the ninth inning to pick up a walk-off win 7-6.
The Mustangs (13-12) scored twice in the seventh and three times in the eighth to tie the game 6-6, but Cole Wilson reached in the bottom of the ninth and came around to score the game-winning run.
After a strikeout, Wilson was hit by a pitch to get on base. He later stole second, and with two outs, stole third. On his attempt to swipe third base, catcher Payton Scarbrough fired down the line challenging Wilson, but it resulted in an error allowing the Diamond Spirit to take the game.
Colton Howell took a no-decision in his second start for the Mustangs. Howell allowed five runs -- three earned -- in 4 1/3 on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Zac Johnson began St. Joe's comeback in the seventh with a two-run homer, his second of the season. He finished the game 2-4 with two RBI.
In the eighth, Griff Gordon reached on an error and came home on a wild pitch. Eric Swain kept it going by driving in Kris Koerper on a single. Scarbrough brought home the tying run on a sacrifice fly.
The Mustangs return home Wednesday with a game against the US Military All-Stars. First pitch is 7:00pm. There will be fireworks following the game.
