(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Mustang center fielder Emilio Villanueva left Wednesday night's game against the US Military All-Stars after the second inning with a collapsed lung.
Villanueva was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he had a tube put in to relieve pressure and to prevent further collapsing.
In the bottom of the first inning, Villanueva was hit by a pitch in the ribs, but remained in the game. After grounding out to end the second he was struggling to breathe, so Kyle Richards replaced him in center field.
Villanueva's breathing hadn't improved by the fifth inning, and an ambulance arrived at Phil Welch Stadium to tend to him in the Mustangs clubhouse.
St. Joseph manager Matt Johnson said after the game Villanueva will miss a few games, and they will monitor the center fielder's situation as he recovers.
Villanueva just wrapped up his junior season at Drury University in Springfield. He's hitting .304 with nine RBI in 19 games this summer for the Mustangs.
