When the Bearcats take the field December 21st to face Lenoir-Rhyne, it'll be their eighth national championship appearance since 1998, and a record-setting one. Northwest surpasses former Division II power North Dakota State as the only team to earn a trip to eight or more title games.
While the Bearcats are setting a new record, it will also be the final championship game played in Alabama.
The NCAA announced last week that the game will move to Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. in 2014-2017 ending a 28-year run for Braly Municipal Stadium.
Current Northwest players knew it would be special to make it to Alabama one last time.
"Once we figured that out, that was a goal we put up, just to get back there," sophomore Bryce Enyard said. "Be the last ones, be the last winners in Florence. And with the hard work, we're back there."
"We're pretty excited to be having it down here in KC, but we have to take care of business at the last one down in Alabama," junior Jason Jozaites said.
A win would make Northwest just the fifth Division II team to achieve a 15-0 record.
