Northwest Controls Winona, Advances to Region's Semifinals

(MANKATO, Minn.) For the first time under head coach Ben McCollum, Northwest picked up a NCAA Tournament win beating Winona State 98-77 Saturday night.

The Bearcats (23-8) controlled the game from start to finish shooting 61.5-percent from the field, and 55-percent from three-point range.

Senior Deshaun Cooper led all scorers with 29 points. He also dished six assists and pulled down five rebounds.

Dillon Starzl contributed 20 points, and Conner Crooker had 19. Freshman Zach Schneider was 4-7 on three-point attempts for 12 points on the night.

Northwest advances to the Central Region's semifinal game against No. 1 seed Minnesota State.

The Bearcats last appearance in the NCAA Tournament came in 2012. It ended in a first round loss to Washburn.
