(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) With their biggest fan from South Korea in attendance, the Royals put themselves in a spot they haven't been in in since 2003.

Alcides Escobar's seventh-inning single lifted Kansas City to a 3-2 win over Oakland for their eighth straight victory. A Tigers loss in Pittsburgh puts the Royals in first place in the American League Central.

South Korean fan Sung Woo Lee, who has spent the last week in Kansas City (64-53), hung the team's familiar "W" in front of a crowed of over 21 thousand at Kauffman Stadium.

Salvador Perez opened the scoring by grounding into a fielder's choice double play off Sony Gray (12-6) in the first frame.

Escobar followed that with his first RBI in the second by singling in Alex Gordon.

Yordano Ventura gave up just two runs on a single swing by Brandon Moss in the third as he worked six innings. He struck out five batters and walked four.

Kelvin Herrera (3-2) picked up the win while running his consecutive scoreless inning streak to 17 1/3.
