(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Local businesses are getting ready for Chiefs Training Camp, and all the fanfare that comes with it.

"We want to let people know that Chiefs Camp is here. It is the summer home of the Kansas City Chiefs," said Lindsay Bernard, Sales Manager at St. Joseph Convention & Visitors Bureau.

"We've been taking the phone calls, and getting prepared. Most of us are pretty excited because we love this time of year," said Alex Whitaker, Sales Manager at Stoney Creek Inn.

Area businesses are preparing for a boost in traffic, even decking out their decor in Chiefs gear.

"We do like to try to get in the spirit," said Whitaker.

Along with changes in the coaching staff and new players, this year also brings changes for training camp.

Instead of sitting in the heat to watch afternoon practices, the morning sessions are open to the public, which may mean those from out of town will stick around a little longer.

"People who want to come to training camp will probably come the night before and stay, and then we're also planning on trying to get those people to stay an extra night by offering some packages and special rates," said Whitaker.

"Maybe it will allow them while they're here to explore a little more and not have to rush back out to an afternoon practice," said Bernard.

The Visitor's Bureau is hoping visitors will pump some money into the local economy.

"That they'll go out to local restaurants and have lunch and from there visit our museums, shop at our mall, shop at the North Village, that they'll actually be out spending money in our community," said Bernard.
"We're all so excited because it's big for St. Joseph, it's big for the community, it's big for the hotel. It definitely helps boost St. Joseph is a very positive way," said Whitaker.

And rolling out the welcome wagon will hopefully bring big business.

The Visitor's Bureau is teaming up with the Metro Chamber to hand out helpful information to area businesses Tuesday morning.
