(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) As the Kansas City Chiefs begin their third year of training camp at Missouri Western, they will be practicing on three natural grass fields designed to the Chiefs' exact specifications.
The turf under the players feet is bermuda grass.
Bermuda grass is typically grown in the southern portion of the country, and thrives in warm conditions.
Craig Hayes of Earl May Nursery says the sod is easier to patch than a normal bluegrass or fescue, but the bermuda grass takes more attention than most homeowners can give the turf.
