Adopt-a-Family Program Maxes Out First Day Applications

The AFL-CIO had to send people home, because they reached their max number of applicants for Adopt-a-Family in just fifteen short minutes. There's still plenty of time to sign up.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) It was a busy day at the St. Joseph AFL-CIO office, as it was the first day for families to sign up to be adopted for the Christmas holiday.

Families in need apply for the chance to have a merry Christmas.

On the application, they list their family's income, and children's wish list for presents.

But it was so busy that the Community Services department reached its max number of applications for the day in just fifteen minutes.

"We've already had to send some folks away and ask them to come back tomorrow," said executive director Penny Adams.  "They get a little nervous and a little panicked, and we try to reassure them that they have plenty of time to get down here.  We're doing this clear through December 7th."

The first day for adopters to sign up will be on Monday, November 11.

Those signups are also at the AFL-CIO office on Sixth Street downtown.
