Area Church Robbed During the Night

Audio/Visual and other electronics are among the items stolen from Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A church falls victim to a thief.

The pastor at Ebenezer United Methodist found out Wednesday morning his church on Highway 169 in St. Joseph had been robbed overnight.

The thief or thieves took several thousand dollars worth of audio and video equipment along with the youth group's video game systems.

Church staff believe the thieves might have broken in through a back window.

Also taken during the theft were some valuable homemade items.

"Youths were selling basically Christmas gifts," said Pastor Ben Mulford. "They were hand-carved, olive wood Christmas ornaments and nativity sets, even a sculpture of the Last Supper. They were selling those as a fundraiser so they could go on a mission trip."

Mulford says whoever is responsible must be troubled if they robbed a church. Mulford says he believes his congregation would forgive them.

The Buchanan County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
