(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A new era of athletics for Benton High School with the unveiling of the new field house.

The St. Joseph Metro Chamber joined the south St. Joseph school for a ceremony Monday.

After the big reveal, the band took the celebration inside the new $1.2 million Enright-Morgan Fieldhouse.

The facility is all decked out with new locker rooms, a coaches room and a multi-purpose area.

The idea for the 10,000-square foot building was born 10 years ago. And, thanks to $416,000 in private donations and $875,000 from the School District, it finally came together.

Those involved say a Benton coach helped push the project across the finish line.

"Coach Matt Tabor has done a tremendous job in starting this project and keeping this project moving," said Mike Ziesel. "That's probably the key. It wasn't just a dream to him it was a reality. And, so, we just feel very excited."

"It was a matter of time, patience, putting the right people at the table and the tenacity of someone like Coach Tabor who is just an 'I won't give up' kind of guy," added Melody Smith, St. Joseph Schools superintendent.

Coach Tabor says he had a lot of help in making it happen and that there's still more money to raise. He hopes to bring in another $150,000 to fill the inside of the facility with much-needed equipment.
