Bowlers Strike Out Cancer

Bowlers tried to not strike out just breast cancer, but all types of cancer at Olympia Lanes Sunday afternoon.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Bowlers tried to not strike out just breast cancer, but all types of cancer at Olympia Lanes Sunday afternoon.

Close to 100 people showed up to raise money for the Heartland Cancer Patient Assistance Fund.

All the money that is raised will go toward the fund, which includes gas cards, medicine, nights at stoney creek, and more for families who commute back and forth to the cancer center.

The fundraiser included a silent auction with items from more than 50 businesses, friends, and family within St. Joseph.

"There's a lot of focus on breast cancer, and even though that's what my mother had, my dear friend Allison Hummer died of brain cancer, and there's so much cancer out there. I didn't really want to just focus on breast cancer, I wanted to help anyone that's fighting cancer," said Fundraiser Organizer Kitty Karr.

Karr hopes to make this an annual event and also hopes to raise more than four thousand dollars.
