Buchanan County Ambulance Tax Passes at the Polls

A light turnout out the polls on a rainy Tuesday brought enough votes to move forward with an ambulance tax in Buchanan County.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A light turnout out the polls Tuesday brought enough votes to move forward with an ambulance tax in Buchanan County.

The quarter-cent tax passed by a vote of 6,307 to 3,165.

The vote follows a decision by Heartland Health earlier this year to discontinue providing ambulance service to the community on July 1, 2014.

A "yes" vote provides funding to turn service over to a county-run, non-profit board.

The County Clerk's office estimated a 15 percent turnout during Tuesday's election. The final count was a little more than 18 percent.
