Cameron Ready for Second Trip to Maryville

Cameron Ready for Second Trip to Maryville

The Dragons are searching for their first district championship since 2005.
(CAMERON, Mo.) Second-year Cameron head coach Jeff White said at the start of district play his team could have been 8-1 at the end of the regular season.

The now eight-win Dragons suffered three losses before hitting districts, two of which came at home at Chillicothe and Savannah by nine combined points. The third, the only blowout defeat of the year, came Week 5 at Maryville. Cameron left on the short end of a 44-14 score, but will get a second chance at the top-ranked Spoofhounds in the Class 3, District 8 Championship game at 7 p.m. on Monday.

The Dragons, who outscored Central Academy and Richmond 77-15 to reach the title game, are trying to capture their first district crown since 2005, the same year as their last state championship.

"The guys wanted a second chance," White said. "They think we're a little bit better than what we showed that first game. I can't think of anybody we'd rather play than Maryville. It's a great challenge for us, but this is the type of team that really enjoys those challenges."

"They know they've got their hands full and they're looking forward to it. It's a very competitive ground and they want to play the best that's out there."
