Cardinals Snap Streak, Rout Pirates

St. Louis 13 runs Thursday match its scoring total from the previous 8 games.
(PITTSBURGH, Penn.) In danger of suffering their first five-game sweep since 1916, the Cardinals turned the tables on the Pirates for a dominating 13-0 win.

On their way to a baker's dozen, St. Louis (63-44) scored in four innings including three in the fourth and eight runs in the seventh. The Cardinals thirteen runs matches their total scoring from the previous eight games. The win also snaps a seven game losing streak.

Tony Cruz -- in the lineup for all-star catcher Yadier Molina who was placed on the disabled list earlier in the week -- led the Redbirds going 3-5 at the plate with a double and two RBI.

Allen Craig and Jon Jay also added two hits and a pair of RBI in the rout of the Pirates.

Joe Kelly lowered his ERA to 3.10 pitching six scoreless innings on the way to his second win of the season. Since rejoining the starting rotation July 6th, Kelly's allowed just five earned runs in 23 2/3 innings.

After losing four of five to Pittsburgh, St. Louis is now 1 1/2 games back in the National League Central standings.

The Cardinals road trip continues with three games in Cincinnati starting Friday.
