Changes Made For This Year's Chiefs Training Camp

If you plan on coming to Chiefs training camp next week there are a few changes across Missouri Western's campus that you need to know about.
If you plan on coming to Chiefs training camp next week, there are a few changes across Missouri Western's campus that you need to know about.

It starts with parking.

During weekly practices, Lot H will be the only lot on campus open for parking.

Visitors will be charged $5 for the whole day, instead of $10 per session like last year.

However, during special events like scrimmages, where there will be an admission charge.

The other on campus parking lots will be open for free.

"We've tried to get it down to a reasonable amount and only one charge per day, but it's necessary that we make that charge because it's one of the few ways we have of covering our expenses of hosting the camp," said Missouri Western Interim Athletics Director, Dan Nicoson.

If you are looking to cool off with a cold drink or get some food, the concession stands and beer tent have moved. They are now located behind the practice field grandstands, making it more convenient for fans.

"We've made every effort to make the site more fan friendly this year," Nicoson said.

Missouri Western hopes to bring in $200,000 each year the camp is there. More than 60,000 people came to last year's training camp. In its first year ever at Missouri Western, it brought about $1.7 million in revenue to St. Joseph and more than $100,000 to Missouri Western.

Western officials expect similar, if not greater numbers during the three week camp.

"We hope that because the camp got great reviews last year in term of facilities and because the chiefs had a better year that we would see some growth in that this year, but we're not concerned with a whole lot larger numbers than that," said Nicoson

Also, if you are coming to camp from St. Joseph, Nicoson says it is best to use the Faraon Street entrance to campus, which should cut down on congestion.
