The family moved to Calif. where Charles lived and worked for 47 years. He graduated from Richmond High School, joined the Air Force, where he served as a Staff Sergeant from 1954 - 1957. He then went to U.C. Berkeley where he received his teaching degree. He retired as an art teacher after 29 years of teaching at San Lorenzo U.S.D. Charles was a member of the National Wildlife Federation and Audubon Society for many years.
Charles was preceded in death by: his parents Mary Ellen Barrett Runyon and William Louis Runyon; brothers, Robert and Bill Runyon. He is survived by: nieces, Lynn Dillon, Janet Heckler and Janice Russell; nephews, David, Carl and William Runyon; and long-time friend Joseph Medina.
Charles was a photographer and artist. He loved to paint and did many beautiful pictures. He loved to paint pictures of the photographs he took on his many trips. Charles was a truly kind and gentle man who was always ready to lend a helping hand. He will be lovingly missed by all.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation between 1-4 pm on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Wilson & Kratzer Mortuaries, Civic Center Chapel, 455 24th Street, Richmond, CA. Charles will be flown to Missouri where he will be buried at Hillcrest Cemetery in Skidmore, Missouri next to his mother and father.
