More than 3,000 fans came to Missouri Western to get an up close look at their favorite Chiefs and enjoy some family fun.

Today was the second Family Fun Day hosted at Missouri Western, in the second year of the Chiefs Training Camp in St. Joseph.

Those coming from nearby say it makes for a perfect day-trip to take the kids.

Joel Frizell and his son made the trip from Platte County, "I just like having it back in the area, where you can come on a days notice or 30 minutes notice rather than having to plan, or not even being able to see the team in training camp."

Along with families and fans making the trip to St. Joseph comes an economic boost, as restaurants and hotels see an influx of guests.

Megan Derry, manager of the Drury Inn on Frederick said, "We've seen a little bit of Chiefs traffic coming through here. Probably about 25 percent of our hotel rooms are for Chiefs Training Camp. Our rates compared to last year are running pretty much even."

Officials say Saturday's practice did not top last year's Family Fun Day.

They attribute that to the heat and the economy.

More than 10,000 people have attended Chiefs camp since it opened last week.
