(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Thanksgiving will be here before we know it, and already community agencies are stepping up to help those in need.

Second Harvest Community Food Bank is working with Apple Market this year to collect items for Thanksgiving meal boxes.

A special drive is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9 at St. Joseph's Apple Market stores. They'll have a list of items needed to fill the boxes that will be distributed to Second Harvest members.

"We already have plenty of turkeys for distribution in St. Joe and our partner agencies. We still need those items that are part of a traditional Thanksgiving meal," said Aaron Smullin, Second Harvest.

Members received vouchers for turkeys already. The collection drive for the other items takes place Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

The meal boxes will be distributed the Monday before Thanksgiving at Second Harvest's Fresh Start market.
