Construction for New SJSD Schools Remains on Schedule, Budget

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Good weather has been good news for crews working to build two new elementary schools in St. Joseph.

Both remain on schedule and on budget.

At the new Carden Park school, located at 13th and Duncan Streets, all the underground electric and plumbing is done and the floors are poured.

Part of the challenge at this construction site was the extra work needed because of the landscape.

"The site at Carden Park was the side of a hill, basically. There had to be a lot of grading going on. And then the design of the school itself was a two-level school where there's a walkout on each level. Then again, the views are spectacular from up there," said school district architect Tad Hopkins.

The Carden Park school, and another being constructed in northeast St. Joseph, are being paid for by a $42 million bond passed by voters in 2012.

Both schools are scheduled to open next fall.
