Crisis Averted in St. Joseph Domestic Dispute

Police remove shotguns from home after domestic dispute resolved.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) St. Joseph police avoided a potentially dangerous situation while responding to a domestic dispute in midtown.

It happened on the 300 block of South 17th St., around 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Police say an argument between two people at the home resulted in a man holding a gun to his own head threatening to kill himself.

Police settled the situation peacefully without incident.

It turned out there were four rifles at the residence.

"We have certain protocol we are going to follow as to whether or not it needs to be an SRT mission or if the patrol officers can handle it on scene as we did tonight," said Sgt. Steve Smith with the St. Joseph Police Department.

No shots were fired. The resident was taken to Heartland Hospital for observation.
