Crews were at 1311 Ridenbaugh early Monday afternoon for a brush fire next to the home.
While some flames went up the side of the house, they put out the fire quickly.
Just a couple hours later, the homeowner reported smoke in the house. Crews again responded to find a fire inside the home, nowhere near where the first had occurred.
"It's almost too strange to believe," said Battalion Chief Bob Bangerter. "We'll let the inspector take a look at it and get a better idea, but we were in areas that were not that close together. So how one could have cause the other is kind of difficult to say."
Bangerter says it appears the second fire started inside a tool room in the basement of the house.
Damage from the second fire was limited to that room.
An investigation is in progress.
