Algae Warning Impacting Local Lake

Officials are warning people and their pets to not swim in Lake Warnock in Atchison County because of algae.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Lake season is in full force, but before you head out on the water, A Kansas organization is warning people about algae in the state.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued blue-green algae warnings for seven lakes in Kansas.

In our region, Lake Warnock in Atchison County made the list.

A blue-green algae warning means high levels have been detected and direct contact with untreated lake water is strongly discouraged for humans and animals.

Other algae warnings in the state include Marion Lake in Marion County, Memorial Park Lake in Barton County, South Park Lake in Johnson County, Logan City Lake in Phillips County, Milford Lake in Clay, Geary and Dickinson counties, and Old Herington Lake in Dickinson County.
