The Wolverines (19-6) beat the Westran Lady Hornets 2-0 to clinch the school's first state title.
Applegarth allowed just two hits and walked two, while striking out six Westran batters. She allowed just three earned runs in 16 innings of work between the semifinal and championship games.
Westran's Mackenzie Hombs pitched well striking out six batters in six innings, but was outdueled in the contest.
Maysville started a rally in the third when Kristin Strong reached on an error. Lesli Cook followed with a single, and moved up to second on the relay throw. Jade Hahn drove in her second run of the weekend on a sacrifice fly to open a 1-0 Wolverine lead. Rachel Boucher extended the lead with a RBI ground out to anchor Maysville to a two-run lead.
Westran's offense never found a rhythm in the Class 1 state championship. The Lady Hornets advanced four runners to second base, but never had a base runner make it to third base.
