Architecture Students Unveil Plans for Downtown St. Joseph

Students from Kansas State University weighed in on plans for downtown St. Joseph through a special project.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Students from Kansas State University weighed in on plans for downtown St. Joseph through a special project to re-develop the area.

The College of Architecture, Planning and Design at the university teamed up with the MO-KAN Council to develop an innovative concept.

Ideas to re-vamp downtown include updating Felix Street, creating a better connection between the Missouri River and downtown. The city says its impressed with the designs and hopes to take ideas from the presentation to expand the area in the future.

"It's been good for us to bring them in and get some fresh ideas on what can happen downtown. They've given us fresh views on what could happen and the projects that can happen at each one of those sites downtown," stated St. Joseph City Planner Dustin Smith.

The plans will be showcased this weekend during the Better Block event. The layouts are only ideas. The city will not make any decisions on the design anytime soon.
