(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A new partnership offers a financial boost to a St. Joseph food bank.

Heartland Health and Mosaic Life Care has donated $65,000 to Second Harvest Community Food Bank.

The money will help fund the Backpack Buddies program, which provides food to 1,000 children in the St. Joseph School District.

Second Harvest Executive Director Chad Higdon said the donation will go toward fresh produce.

"With the funding help of Heartland, we are able to purchase that produce, and ensure it goes to our friends and neighbors that rely on food assistance," he said.

The Backpack Buddies distribution runs through the end of the school year, then picks up again in September.
