The changes include new bars with sensors to all exit doors as well as new scan pads for employees.
The biggest upgrades are to the employee parking lot. The lot has a new gate and employees will now use key cards to gain access.
Commissioners say the changes are long overdue and will keep the public and employees safe.
"It works better, it's more secure and the buildings more secure. It's generally for the public also just to better and easier access and a more secure place," said R.T. Turner, Buchanan County Presiding Commissioner.
The changes cost taxpayers a little more than $60,000.
