Buchanan County to Vacate Rural County Road

The rural road is in Rush Township and will be vacated after the lone landowner in the area started a petition.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.)  Buchanan County Commissioners held a public hearing this morning to vacate a rural county road.

Commissioners made the decision at a public hearing after landowner Norman Griffin started a petition asking the county vacate the road near his property in Rush Township near North Shore Terrace.

Griffin says many people use the road for bird watching, but the extra traffic has created a problem.

Commissioners voted to vacate the road because the extra maintenance is a financial burden for the county.

Griffin said he will eventually remove the road at a later time.
