Children Interested in Aviation Fly Around St. Joseph

The opportunity was part of the Young Eagles Program.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Some kids in St. Joseph were able to see Northwest Missouri from the skies this morning.

The local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association offered free flights for kids 8 to 17 as part of their Young Eagle Program.

Kids interested in flying were able to learn about different jobs in the aviation industry, while joining pilots as they flew around town.

The chapter's president Greg Starkel said their push is to introduce young kids to flying.

"When they come out we show them what a pilot would do before each flight so we do walk-around inspection and then we talk about basic aero-dynamics, what the different controls do with the airplane and we talk about different career opportunities in the aviation field," he said.

The pilots flew the kids over Missouri Western and their elementary schools.

The organization does Young Eagle flights several times a year for children in town.
