Chilly Start to 2014 Parties on the Parkway

Parties on the Parkway kicked off on Thursday with cold and windy weather.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) After being postponed a week due to severe weather, Parties on the Parkway kicked off on Thursday.

However, the weather was not ideal.

Chilly weather kept people from coming to the season opener but it was still a decent turnout.

Country singer and songwriter, Phil Vandel, entertained hundreds Thursday afternoon.

St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce and the City of St. Joseph started Parties on the Parkway to show off the parkway system.

Although numbers were less than average for a season opener, their message still got across to those who attended.

"There's 23 miles of gorgeous parkway and we did it as a part of community togetherness to show the community what a unique parkway system we have," said Natalie Redmond, with the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce. "We're just happy to do it every month of this summer."
