Brandon Simmons threw seven innings only allowing two runs on five hits, but it was not enough as the Mustangs (26-19) were not able to capitalize with runners on base.
The Mustangs got on the board first in the fifth inning when Kyle Richards scored on a Griff Gordon sacrifice fly giving St. Joe the 1-0 lead.
Clarinda answered in the seventh inning when Dean Long knocked a two-out single into center scoring DMarko Poindexter and Blake Trahan giving the A's the lead, 2-1.
St. Joe had nine hits throughout the game with three of them coming from Benton product Lucas Powers batting second in the lineup. Powers' batting average is now up to .375 on the season.
The Mustangs have lost five out of six games to Clarinda this year.
Down to four games left this summer, St. Joseph will play the Omaha Diamond Spirit tomorrow night at Phil Welch Stadium at 7pm.
