Clinton County Standoff Ends; 2 Inmates in Custody

Two inmates that escaped from a Lansing Correctional Facility this morning have surrendered peacefully after a nearly six-hour standoff in rural Clinton County.
(CLINTON COUNTY, Mo.) Two inmates that escaped from a Lansing, Kan. correctional facility this morning have surrendered peacefully after a nearly seven-hour standoff in rural Clinton County.

Erik Holland with the Platte County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Allen Hurst, 31, and Scott Gilbert, 49, surrendered to authorities just before 5:00 p.m. Friday, after staying in a home near Edgerton for nearly six hours. Authorities said the two surrendered without incident; walking out the back door.

Clinton and Platte County deputies, along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol were in communication with the two men through part of the afternoon.

Hurst and Gilbert led authorities on a multi-county pursuit Friday morning after stealing a truck in Kansas.

Holland said they two men fired shots at police, who did not return fire.

They broke into the house along Z highway, just west of 169 highway where the standoff began.

The whereabouts of the third escapee, Randy Ridens are still not known.
