Commissioners Hear Arguments on Power Line Proposal

The battle over a proposed power line, through northwest Missouri, continues to heat up.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The battle over a proposed power line, through northwest Missouri, continues to heat up.

Thursday, in front of Buchanan County Commissioners, organizers from the Grain Belt Express debated Block Grain Belt, the organization against the proposal.

The grain belt would run through 14 counties in Missouri; eight of those counties no longer support it.

Buchanan County Commissioners have not changed their stance on supporting the proposal, but said they will reconsider after hearing concerns from landowners.

"I think we will take everything into consideration that was said today. There was some people that were calm and collected, in their statements, and there were people that were emotional. And, this is a very emotional issue. But, we will sort through the facts, then make our decision," said Dan Hausman, Eastern District Presiding Commissioner.

The county commissioners plan to make that decision before the end of the month.
