Deputies Assigned to SRO Unit at Buchanan County Schools

Full-time officers began their roles with the schools on Jan. 13. They are trained to respond to incidents on school grounds. They are also responsible for coordinating school safety plans.
(BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo.) Rural schools in Buchanan County have new layer of security.

The Buchanan County Sheriff's Department has assigned a School Resource Officer to each rural school building in the county.

The additional full-time officers began their roles with the schools on Jan. 13. They are trained to respond to incidents on school grounds. They are also responsible for coordinating school safety plans and consulting on programs and special school events.

The SRO unit is made up of five deputies. The unit covers Bessie Ellison, Mid-Buchanan R-V, East Buchanan, Buchanan County R-IV Middle/High School and Buchanan County R-IV Elementary School.

The deputies will be in full uniform and have a marked patrol vehicle at their assigned schools.

Deputy Sarah Hardin was the first SRO to be assigned to a Buchanan County school. She has been with Mid-Buchanan R-V since 2005.
