Dorrel Named AFCA Division II Coach of the Year

This is the fifth year a Northwest coach has earned Coach of the Year honors, the first since Mel Tjeerdsma in 2009.
(MARYVILLE, Mo.) Winning a national title brings a lot of praise with it, and the honors continue to roll in for Northwest Missouri State.

Bearcats head coach Adam Dorrel has been named the AFCA Division II Coach of the Year after leading Northwest to their second every 15-0 season and the Division II National Championship.

Dorrel coached Northwest to an outright MIAA crown and a 43-28 win over Lenoir-Rhyne in the national title game back in December. The Maryville native now holds a 36-3 record in three seasons at the helm with the Bearcats.

It's the fifth time a Northwest coach has received the honor and the first since four-time recipient Mel Tjeerdsma in 2009. The current Northwest athletic director also earned the accolade in 1998, 1999, and 2008.
