Downtown Buildings to Receive Exterior Make Over

A part of downtown St. Joseph will soon get a face-lift.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A part of downtown St. Joseph will soon get a face-lift.

The St. Joseph Downtown Partnership and the River City Development Committee have raised more than $125,000 in private funds to create a mural.

Once completed the mural will be displayed on the rear buildings between Fourth and Fifth streets with a western migration theme.

Leaders behind the idea say it's not only a way to draw more people to downtown but  also a way to reflect on the city's rich history.

"It really kinda accents the parking lot. You know, with everything else going on downtown especially with Heartland Health coming downtown it's a real positive jive going on here that's got the city buzzing a little bit," stated Joe Houts, chairman of the River City Development Committee.

The mural is expected to take about three weeks to complete. The money collected will be used to pay the artist and work to the exterior of the buildings.
