City crews responded to a 4-inch water main break around 10 a.m. on Saturday.
They received the report about the break around 1:30 Saturday morning, but waited until daylight to fix it.
The city shut off water as soon as crews began working.
A boil order was not issued.
"Ground temperature. Freezing and thawing. Just an old line. One of the original lines in the city and it broke," said Dennis Muse.
The water was shut off in the city for nearly three hours.
City crews said the cold weather isn't fully to blame for the break, but it did not help the situation.
