Families Displaced After Overnight Fire

Two St. Joseph families are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross after a fire destroyed their home in the early morning hours Wednesday.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Two St. Joseph families are displaced after a fire overnight on the corner of 13th and Jackson streets.

The St. Joseph Fire Department was called to the house fire in the 1900 block of South 13th St. around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Initial reports indicated people were inside the home but firefighters later found no one was inside. Two families, consisting of three adults and two children live inside the house. No one was home when the fire started.

No injuries were reported. Fire Inspector Robert Blizzard said a cause has not been determined. He did say the house is a total loss.

The families are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Inspector Blizzard said crews left the scene around 4:15 Wednesday morning.
