(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Strong winds ripped a roof off a trailer at a St. Joseph business Monday morning.

The St. Joseph Fire Department, along with utility and cable crews, responded to the lot at Summers Motors at 510 N. Belt Highway around 11:30 a.m.

That's where they found the roof blown off the top of a mobile unit. The metal roof, which was still hanging from the side of the unit when firefighters arrived, contacted power lines nearby.

Battalion Chief Paris Jenkins said they were originally called because someone smelled smoke, but they determined there was no sign of a fire.

Jenkins said crews from KCP&L and Suddenlink were called to check out any potential problems with the lines. He said the lines were cleared by KCP&L.
