Bob Ryser, a volunteer with the Wathena Fire Department, said his department got the call just before 4 p.m. Monday.
He said by the time crews arrived at 1025 Scranton Road, the home was fully engulfed in flames.
Crews worked to put out the fire, but they were unable to save the home.
A couple and their kids were gone when the fire started, so no one was hurt.
The home, according to Ryser, is a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The American Red Cross office in Leavenworth responded Monday to assist the family.
