"It's my birthday! Didn't you know it?" said Jess Hatcher, who celebrated his 100th birthday on Monday.
Born in 1914, Hatcher cruised through life with a smile on his face and a century later, he is still going strong.
"I feel great. I never felt better in my life," he said.
He lives at home with his daughter Mary Hatcher in St. Joseph.
She says it is surreal that he reached this milestone.
"I just can't believe it. It hasn't really dawned on me yet what exactly it is," she said.
She also said the most astonishing thing about her father was the fact that he still drives and does it well.
"He's a very good driver. He's been driving since the age of 10, though," Mary said.
Jess says his secret to living a long, healthy life was pretty simple and more of a mind game than anything else.
"Just good, clean living and hard work," he said.
He reminded those around him to never give up, press on to see 100 years and to always smile.
