Monday afternoon, crews responded to a field fire behind Pickett Elementary in St. Joseph. That fire required assistance from multiple crews.
Battalion Chief Russell Moore said crews were called to a flare up from that fire on Tuesday morning. Crews had the flare up under control by 10:30 a.m.
A larger field fire burned at 3866 SW Contrary Creek Road on Monday evening.
That fire had large flames and stretched for several hundred feet.
The St. Joseph Fire Department, Rushville Volunteer Fire Department and Dekalb Fire Department assisted with that fire.
Moore said the strong southwest winds on Monday were a bit of a blessing because it kept the smoke and fire away from the school and nearby homes.
A red flag warning was in effect throughout the day.
