The Gorillas jumped on Griffon ace Jackie Bishop early in the afternoon as McKenzie Rynard slapped a solo home run out to left in the second inning.
Tiffany Brown doubled the lead in the next frame with an RBI single up the middle, plating Cheslyn Mitchell. That'd be the last run allowed by Bishop (13-6) who struck out nine while giving up five hits over seven innings.
MWSU cut into the lead that same frame as Taylor Anding scored on a wild pitch by Kylie Harpst (3-4).
The Griffons (20-14, 5-7) grabbed a permanent lead in the sixth thanks to a home run by Tiffany Gillaspy followed by another wild pitch that gave the green light to Kat Steponovich to race home.
The bats were lively in the first inning of game two as Brown knocked a three-run homer off Janie Smith (7-8) to give PSU (16-16, 3-7) an early lead.
Gillaspy came back with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the frame to make it 3-2.
Brown stepped up in the third an knocked her second three-run homer of the game to put the Gorillas on top for good. Smith allowed all six runs on five hits while fanning four.
The Griffons return to the MWSU Spring Sports Complex on Sunday for another doubleheader with Missouri Southern.
