Griffons Rack up 19 Runs in Sweep of Missouri Southern

Tiffany Gillaspy's grand slam caps off a six-run day as Missouri Western earns 8-1 and 11-2 wins.
(ST. JOSEPH) Missouri Western plated 19 runs on 19 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Missouri Southern by finals of 8-1 and 11-2 on Sunday.

The wins pull the Griffons back to .500 in MIAA play at 7-7 and bumps their overall record to 22-14.

Tiffany Gillaspy began a six-RBI afternoon in the third inning of game one, driving in Morgan Rathmann with a single to left. 

The Lions registered their only run in the next frame on a throwing error. The Griffons then plated seven unanswered, including a five-run fifth inning. Rathmann and Katie Klosterman each registered two RBI. 

Jackie Bishop (14-6) struck out eight Lions and gave up three hits on four walks. 

MSSU (10-24, 2-8) kicked things off in the second meeting Michelle Stevenson's wayward through to first allowed two runners to cross. 

The lead was short-lived as MWSU erupted for six runs in the bottom of the frame. Gillaspy registered her final five RBI in a two-inning span, which included a grand slam to put the Griffons up 11-2 in the third. 

Janie Smith (8-8) tallied two strikeouts and two walks while allowing four hits over five innings.
