Griffs Down Another Post Player

Dzenan Mrkaljevic's status is day-to-day.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Missouri Western was already down a big man entering the new year. Now the post position is taking another hit.

Senior forward Dzenan Mrkaljevic is currently day-to-day with a knee injury.

Mrkaljevic missed Saturday's game against Washburn, and will likely be out for Monday's conference home game with the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

The Griffons already lost Cedric Clinkscales after the first semester as his eligibility ran out. That left Mrkaljevic as Western's only experienced post player.

"When DZ was in, we felt like a lot of the stuff that we were doing we could still run by just tweaking a little," head coach Brett Weiberg said. "Now that DZ is out, we can't do the same stuff that we did when we had Cedric."

Charlie Marquardt is the lone player for Missouri Western (6-6, 1-3 MIAA) left in the lineup that's taller than 6'5".

"It's going to be very challenging," junior guard Ryan Devers said. "We're just going to have to buy-in to what coach is telling us and try to get W's. That's all that matters right now."

The women's game between Missouri Western and Nebraska-Kearney tips off at 5:30pm Monday, the men's game will follow.
